Beginning of the Queen Charlotte Drive... overlooking Picton harbour.
Such a beautiful drive. I fell in love a bit.
Out of the mountains and on our way to Nelson.
Stopped at the Pelorus Swingbridge.
Pretty river.
Arriving in Nelson.
Cathedral, with pretty magnolia trees.
We felt right at home.
We kept seeing these girls... their fashion sense was right out of the 80s.
Tahunanui Beach in Nelson.
One of the sunniest places in NZ, so lots of vineyards.
On the road again, to Westport.
Stopped at the Buller Gorge Swingbridge. This one was a little scary.
...but a great view.
There were two ways to get across. We walked, like suckas.
On the other side was this fault line that opened up after an earthquake.
Last year this river flooded... and the waterline was 10 feet higher than where I was standing when I took this picture.
Chris crossing back over.
Highway was carved into the side of the mountain.
Visiting a seal colony at Cape Foulwind, near Westport.
Cute little fur seals.
Sunset at Cape Foulwind.
We're a long way from home.
Should have done the zip line.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful country.
Amazing photos!!
ReplyDeleteZipline would have been crazy. And a fault line! Pretty neat.
ReplyDeleteAs a geologist, you really would love this place. It's all so new, relatively speaking.
