Mount Cook

As you can see from my last post, we left Cromwell on a cloudy, rainy day.  But there were some things that weren't so ugly.
I met a movie star!  (Practically every horse in NZ was in LOTR, so I can only assume these ones were famous.)

Metal artwork in a farmers field.  These were huge...

Must be time for summer haircuts, because there were naked sheep everywhere.

We stumbled upon a sign that said "clay cliffs 10km" and decided to check it out.

Not in any tourist book, but was very cool.

Clay walls, lots of holes, rocks embedded.

Chris recognized this as the place were the rat monkeys were found in Dead Alive.  A quick google search has not confirmed this.  I'll have to watch the movie again when I get home...

Great views from inside.

Impressive.

Dimholt road?

Sheepish Cow.  (He was HUGE, but very shy.)

Road to Mount Cook.

Sky brightened a bit, but cloud still covered the peak.

The snowy mountain in the back is Mount Cook, the highest in NZ at 3754m.

Sheep-ede.

Arriving in Lake Tekapo, and the rain finally stops.  Hopefully we'll get better views tomorrow.

  1. The clay cliffs were also used for the Path of the Dead in Return of the King. Loving these pictures. :)
