Rainy Drive

Today we drove 5.5hrs from Taupo to Wellington, the capital city.

It rained a lot.

We kept seeing these walls of pumice and thought they were quarries, but eventally deiscovered it was a river that created the huge walls of stone.

Chris's new favourite road-trip-treat.

A '66 Mustang.  Not many American muscle cars here.

Starting to clear.  We can finally see some mountains.

Entering Wellington.  We were told it has the same population as Halifax, but it felt like a much larger city.  The city centre is much bigger, with lots of skyscrapers.  (Maybe it was comparing Wellington city to the population of the entire HRM.)

Since it wasn't a great day, we went to Te Papa, the national museum.

All kinds of info on New Zealand... geography, culture, immigration. etc.  Plus an art gallery, roller coaster ride, and loads of interactive fun for kids.  Admission:  Free.  Woo!

And a giant squid.  What more could you ask for?
