Hot Water Beach

Oct 9:  Hot Water Beach was so cool.  There are underground hot springs under the beach, so you can dig down and create your own thermal pool.  You could tell when you were in the right spot because the sand gets nice and warm under your feet.... or scalding hot, if you're not careful.

  The area is only accessible at low tide, so we got there at about 7am to start digging.

 The hard part is getting the temperature right.  In some spots it's scalding hot, but if you move a couple feet to the left or right, the water is freezing. 

 After a few attempts we found a good spot. 

But we couldn't dig too deep, otherwise it would burn!

  Some people had two pools, one hot and one cool, with a wall of sand between, so they could allow in just the right amount of hot water.  

 We opted to dig close to the ocean and get a mix of spring and ocean water.  Perfection!

Until the tide came in...  :)
