Our flight from LA to Fiji was smooth and uneventful, but long and cramped. The time change is really odd, especially with crossing the date line. We left LA at 11:30pm PST on Tuesday, flew for 10 or 11 hours, and arrived in Fiji at 5:30am two days later, on Thursday. Luckily Chris and I both managed to sleep most of the time, and arrived in Fiji well rested.
It was too early to check in to the hotel, so we wandered around Nadi Town. Even though it was early, there were many stores and markets open.
Nadi, Fiji. (Please excuse my appearance... it was a LONG flight. :) )
Chris learned about the history of cannibalism on the island along with their ancient weapons. There were many styles, all hand carved and decorated. This one is one is called the neck breaker. It’s a shame something so beautiful has such a violent purpose.
At the end of town we found a colourful Indian Temple. As the sun rose, it became hot quite quickly, and we were eager to get back to the hotel.
Sri Siva Subramaniya Hindu Temple
We caught a city bus back to the hotel, which ended up taking us on a milk run of the outskirts including the marina, golf course, and some beautiful resorts. Not a bad tour for 1 Fijian dollar. (About 56 cents)
We dropped by the local supermarket to pick up some food for lunch. They had a variety of lunch meats from chicken to beef to lamb – unfortunately regardless of what the package said they all looked like bologna.
We got back to the hotel, checked in to our lovely (air-conditioned) room, and headed straight for the pool. That's Chris in the deep end.
Mercure Nadi Hotel Pool
We hung out in the pool for the afternoon, and are now getting dressed for supper. The sun sets early here, so we plan to keep this early schedule - go to bed early and get up early, to enjoy as much of this tropical sunshine as we can.
Looks gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteSmart cookies timing yourselves around the sun! ;)
Beautiful. Hope you have an amazing time. :)
ReplyDeleteJack and Max were thrilled to see that they have swimming pools on the other side of the world. I love the fact that the weapon store has ukuleles on the wall. Safe travels!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo many neat sights! Can't wait to read about/see pictures of more of it. Looks like a great pool for a dip.
ReplyDeleteThanks all, for the comments! It's nice to hear from you all!
